Newest Scholarship recipient, Victoria Galyemska, won Gold at the RJCC/ROC in Ontario, CA in DIV2 Women’s Sabre and earned her D23 rating over Labor Day weekend 2023. She also won 5th place in Cadet (U16) and 6th in Junior (U19) categories. She was led to victory by Coach Hristov from Premier Fencing Academy. Victoria is a 15-year old Ukranian who has journeyed a long way to get where she is today. Due to the war in Ukraine, she moved from her home in the Donetsk region to Kiev, Ukraine, then to Dormagen, Germany, and now resides in Sacramento, CA with her sister who lived there. She kept up with fencing throughout those years and remains a serious student who receives good grades.

“The National Fencing Foundation bolsters fencing in the Washington, D.C. metro area and demonstrates a dedicated willingness to lend a helping hand. I was so honored to be one of the recipients of the prestigious Capitol Clash Scholarship. Thank you for your generosity: Without scholarship patrons who are committed to developing fencing students such as myself, I would not have been afforded the opportunity to pursue the National and International competitions that have opened the door for me to represent the USA on two world teams.
Your scholarship helped me earn points in Bratislava, Slovakia, the El Salvador Pan American Games, the 2019/20 Junior Olympic Championship, the Senior World Cup in Kazan, Russia, the World Championship in Cairo, Egypt, and the April, May, and June NAC’s. I am joyful and encouraged because I have another chance to live up to my potential and be successful. All this was made possible by the scholarship which you awarded me. I can think of no better way to show my appreciation than to “pay it forward” by creating opportunities for others to excel in fencing, just as you have done for me.
My passion for fencing is matched only by my love for God and serving humanity, so my decision to give back comes from the heart. Even with the delays due to COVID, family income changes, family health concerns with my 95-year-old grandmother’s recovery from COVID, and the challenges of online schooling, I feel very blessed.
Once again, thank you for the vote of confidence and the National Fencing Foundation
scholarship. I am committed to my education and to the US Fencing community, and one step closer to fulfilling my dream of becoming an Olympian, thanks to your continued generosity. I have begun my search for my undergraduate college/university and can already report that my academics are off to a first-rate start, grades are fantastic, and I have earned my Girl Scout Gold Award. As of now, I plan to complete a major in Political Science and pursue a law degree.”
